Horseland Young Rider & Junior Jumping State Championships - results
Horseland Junior and Young Rider Jumping State Championships Dec 16th-18th 2011 Congratulations to Victorian Young Rider Champion 2011 -Alyce Cooney on Galvey Bay (pictured above) Victorian Junior Champion 2011 - Zac Hopkinson on Layland Victorian 14yrs and under Champion - Celia Morrison on Snowy River Nutmeg Inter Country Challenge winners- Victorian team of Jonathon Smith, Melissa Julius, Zoe Boulton and Tegan Chester
A massive thank you to all those that made this weekend. This includes our judges- Anne Garner, Brian Scattergood, Ellen Wilson and Binny Barclay; Our pencillers Bev Croke, Janne Hayes; our course designers Leeson Sirett, Mark Brennan and John Wootten and our commentators Brian Brennan and Brian Cheffers. Ingrid Green and Wendy van Sonsbeek did an amazing job co-ordinating the sponsorship, presentations and scoring ( and a myriad of other roles!); Emily van sonsbeek and Toni Scattergood for actively sourcing sponsors (which as a junior and Young RIder shows great commitment to their sport) and Sarah Liarakos for catering for officials. The weather was lovely with just a brief shower and windy period. We made the decision to move to the grass arenas and we saw some great jumping. The three Championship events were keenly contested and full credit to all riders for the standard of these events. The jump offs provided great entertainment and exciting competition. The Presentations were very impressive thanks to the support of our sponsors. Thanks go to Sport and Recreation, Dept of Planning and Community Development from the Victorian State Government, to Horseland and to all our kind sponsors. They are listed below and please take the time to click on the logos below for contact details and pass on your thanks for their sport. We had New Zealand and South African teams as guests and ran a borrowed horse teams competition over two rounds. The quality of the horses and riders made this a closely fought contest. Victoria won Round 1, South Africa Round 2. The overall champion team were the Victorian Team of Jonathon Smith, Melissa Julius, Zoe Boulton and Tegan Chester. Congratulations to all riders, fine young people that represented their countries impeccably with only 6 faults separating the three teams after four rounds of 12 horses jumping! The families that contributed horses for the pool- the Haworth family, the Shears family, Seetal Dodd, the Connell family, the Chesters x 3 and Taylah Frampton- also need a huge thank you for their support. This Intercountry challenge is a very worthwhile component of the Young Rider program in Victoria and it only can be hosted by the generosity of Victorian families donating their horses. Jamie Coman, Gavin Chester and Paul Williams also need commendation for working so hard to ensure this teams events success. Together with a full three day program in each of the three rings- other highlights included the Squad Challenges for 2011, a fancy dress rescue relay and a Masterclass with Jamie Coman. Thanks go to Sam Richardson and Adam Prime, past squad members who gave up their time to participate in the Masterclass. Principal of Longma our Squad Sponsor Nicole Bernard was in attendance and we thank Nicole for all her support over the past two years. Longma is having a big sale so get onto the website for further details www.longma.com.au with 25%-40% of all products. Full results are listed below and I would take this opportunity to thank the riders and their families for their contribution to making this a very relaxed and enjoyable show. Annie White
